During the month of August, we have worked extensively with both the clinical support and education and training officers at Northern Ireland Ambulance Trust ensuring they are delivering highly effective conflict resolution and moving and handling training to their teams.
Solutions have trained three cohorts in safer patient handling and manual handling risk assessment and one cohort in conflict resolution including the application of non-pain compliant disengagement skills.
The courses being on the regulated qualifications framework, so all are now professionally qualified holding the QNUK Level 3 award in Moving and Handling for trainers ( Emergency Services) and or the QNUK Level 2 award in Conflict Resolution.
One cohort of existing trainers attended a moving and handling update when a participant admitted that when he was being taught in 2024 how to build in automatic muscle memory to avoid him aggravating his bad back he was “extremely dubious” . However, he said that not only did the muscle memory technique work, but his back pain had now gone.
Those attending the conflict resolution have taken away a wide range of training materials including several filmed scenarios for staff to risk assess and learn how to manage as well as a film library of disagreement skills. Eddie one participant with nearly forty years experience commented “I really enjoyed this course and came away thinking a lot more about the psychology of conflict resolution including behavioural patterns, attitude and trigger factors. Those attending the moving and handling have also taken away a wide range of training materials including filmed scenarios for them to risk assess plus a film library of some twenty four pre hospital moving and handing techniques.
Northern Ireland Ambulance Trust have been customers of Solutions for some twenty three years which speaks for itself.
