Course Aims

  • To ensure participants are able to assess when and how to move people under emergency circumstances and problem solve on current issues

This manual handling course has been designed with the core aim of creating a confident and more motivated, competent person to assess manual handling in emergency in the workplace

Course Introduction

This manual handling course has been designed to enable participants to assess for, and apply moving and handling techniques for emergency situations. Thus reducing risks to handlers and those being handled, mitigating your risks to claims and litigation.

The course centres on improving manual handling by combining the use of criterion based on risk assessment with current best practice handling techniques in emergency.

This course stimulates an ideal climate for change to attitudes, practices and motivation which is essential to improving safer handling in the work place.

The training team provide trainer training to the UK’s 999 ambulance & fire services as well as emergency response team.

What delegates will learn

  • How to clarify policy issues in respect of emergency handling
  • How to demonstrate techniques for
    • moving the fallen / collapsed person from the floor with a hoist and lifting cushion
    • removal from a bath with a lifting cushion
    • reposition a semi-recumbent person to recumbent to perform CPR
    • demonstrate how to move from a chair to the floor
    • use slide sheets to move patients from confined spaces
    • move a person from the bed to the floor
  • Provide solutions to current handling issues in the workplace

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course participants should be able to:

  • Understand when and how to apply risk assessment prior to emergency handling of people
  • Demonstrate under simulated circumstances a range of emergency handling techniques

Assessment process

This will be overall and continuous, against the course objectives.

Special requirements of course participants:

As the course requires practical lifting of loads participants should be free from injury or illness that may place them at risk. The appropriate clothing and footwear should be worn.

Course Trainers:

Solutions trainers come from ambulance and nursing backgrounds. Team have extensive experience in training both manual handling instructors and assessors. All are recognised by the Middlesex University and EDEXCEL as accredited manual handling trainers / assessors.
