Course Aims

  • To provide staff who are competent to conduct and record Display Screen Equipment (DSE) assessments.
  • To reduce risk of injury to staff.
  • To avoid prosecution and litigation.

This course has been designed with the core aim of creating a confident and competent assessor who will enable employers to comply with best practice and keep within the law.

Course Introduction

This course has been designed to ensure you have a team member who is both confident and competent to conduct DSE assessments so that, risks are reduced to both employees, mitigating your risk to claims and litigation.

The course centres on the legal issues and providing the practical skills to make thorough ergonomically based risk assessments.

This highly practical course stimulates an ideal climate for change to attitudes, practices and motivation which is essential to improving performance and reducing risk in the work place.

Participants discover new ways to inspire their colleagues to change their practices and reduce the physical and psychological stresses associated with working at computers.

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Define the term “safe system of work” and its’ application to DSE users
  • Identify the ill health effects and risks associated with DSE use
  • Apply the ergonomic assessment tool “Rapid Upper Limb Assessment” (RULA) and advise and guide users in safer practice
  • Conduct and record at east two simulated assessments using the H.S.E. VDU workstation checklist revised 2003.

Assessment process

This will be overall and continuous, against the course objectives and completion of a multiple choice paper.

Certification / Accreditation:

On successful completion of this programme participants will receive a Solutions certificate.

Solutions trainers come from a range of backgrounds including health care. All have extensive experience in the subject and have specialist training in ergonomics. All have adult teaching / training qualifications.
