Course Details

Course Aims

• Maintain the knowledge and skills of the First Aider at work and need to re-qualify.
• Re-qualify participants to act as a First Aiders in the work place.

This course is highly participative which includes the management of casualties in a range of simulated emergency situations and includes formal assessment of First Aid Skills.

Course Introduction

The First Aid at Work regulations 1981 require all employers and the self employed to make first aid provisions for their staff at work.

Solutions are a Health & Safety Executive approved first aid at work training provider. This course has been designed to ensure you have a person at work that is confident and competent to deal with an emergency.

The course centres on training staff to recognise and manage both life threatening situations and other incidents that may occur in the workplace. The content is line with the revised Resuscitation Council protocols of December 2005.

It is only delivered by trainers who either qualified as ambulance paramedic, or nurse tutors. The company does not use lay / non professional instructors. This means that the trainers are able to share years of practical experience with the participants.

Please note that all participants have access to an incident debrief help line. This is designed to allow people trained by Solutions to talk through any incident they may have been called upon to assist with.

On completion of the course the participant is qualified for a period of 3 years to act as a First Aider in the work place.

What delegates will learn

• Role and responsibility of a First Aider at work
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
• Management of bleeding and shock
• Management of injuries to bones, muscles and joints
• Management of sudden illness including Angina, Heart Attacks, Asthma, Epilepsy

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course participants should be able to:

• Demonstrate the range of skills to meet the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981
• Demonstrate under simulated conditions the action of a First Aider to include assessments of safety ABC assessment
• Demonstrate under simulated conditions CPR on a training manikin for three minutes
• Identify the causes and types of shock and types of bleeding; skills to stop bleeding
• Demonstrate the management of a casualty with shock
• Describe management injuries to bone, muscle, joints, burns, head injuries, stroke, Heart Attack, Asthma, Diabetes and Angina

Assessment process

This will be overall and continuous, against the course objectives, including a practical and written assessment on the final day.

Certification / Accreditation:

On successful completion of this programme participants will receive an HSE Approved First Aid at Work Certificate valid for 3 years.

Special requirements of course participants:

This course is only for participants who are holders of a valid First Aid at work Certificate.

Course Trainers:

Solutions first aid training team only come from NHS ambulance and nursing backgrounds. All are approved by the Health & Safety Executive to deliver first aid at work training.
