Course Aims

• To equip participants with the knowledge and skills to conduct a basic safety inspection and risk assessment as required by the Management of Health & Safety at Work regulations 1999.
• To assist with the need to have competent people to assist with the management of health & safety in the workplace.
• To reduce risk of injury to staff.
• To avoid prosecution and litigation.

This highly practical course has been designed with the core aim of creating a confident and motivated person to conduct basic workplace risk assessments.

Course Introduction

This course has been designed to ensure the participants are both confident and competent to conduct basic workplace safety inspections and risk assessments. A highly participative day adopting learner centred methods, participants will learn that risk assessment is not a burden but just an extension of good management and is something practiced by everyone each day. The outcome will be that your workplace risks are reduced, to both employees and others. Also that you will be mitigating your risk to claims and litigation.

The course centres on learning the necessary legal underpinning knowledge then when and how to use both safety inspection and risk assessment pro forma’s. You will also learn when you can, and cannot use generic risk assessments.

This course stimulates an ideal climate for change to attitudes, practices and motivation which is essential to improving performance in the work place.

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

• Appreciate the requirements of the Health & Safety etc At Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regs 1999 and how they relate to risk assessments
• By means of practical exercises conduct and record a safety inspection and workplace risk assessment
