Course Objectives: At the end of the training participants will, on completion of the 3 course unit, be able to: - Establish the priorities of Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing and Circulation (DRABC) and carry out emergency first aid skills, in a simulated environment, that may be required when transporting people with special needs.
- Identify the key principles of manual handling law and guidelines, spinal mechanics and risk assessment and carry out a range of practical handling techniques when assisting people with special needs to move.
- Recognise the need for effective communication skills when gaining the co-operation of a person with special needs and define the causes of disability such as Cerebral Palsy; Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder; Downs Syndrome; Muscular Dystrophy; Learning Disability; Cerebral Vascular Accident; Dementia and Arthritis.

Certification / Accreditation: BTEC Intermediate Award for Transporting People WIth Special Needs. Successful completion of this programme entitles participants to apply for the BTEC . Assessment criteria and registration fee available on request. Please note that the cost of this BTEC Award is additional to the cost of the course as it is optional. |

Course Trainers: Tutors who have qualified as a Registered General Nurse or as an NHS ambulance paramedic trainer will deliver the training. All trainers are approved by the H.S.E for the purposes of providing HSE approved first aid at work. Solutions is an EDEXCEL approved centre to provide accredited moving & handling training. |
